America’s Most Expensive Cheese Pizzas

America’s Most Expensive Cheese Pizzas

You might assume that New York is the most expensive cheese pie because it is known for its deliciously cheesy pizzas. According to a new study by Expensive, which is a company that provides accurate data about investing and personal finances, New York’s prices seem surprisingly lower.

The Last Frontier is where you will find America’s most expensive cheese pizzas. Expensive mapped the average cost of cheese pies across the nation and found Alaska to be the most expensive at $9.21.

Does this mean that the Empire State is not far behind? Not at all. The following states have some of the highest cheese pizza prices, even before New York. Here are the average prices of these cheese pizzas:

  • Alaska: $9.21
  • Montana: $9.07
  • Oklahoma: $9.00
  • Vermont: $8.93
  • Connecticut: $8.76
  • Pennsylvania: $8.72
  • Kentucky: $8.60
  • Mississippi: $8.56
  • Kansas: $8.51

Expensively looked at the menus and prices of pizza places in the U.S., using estimates from MenuWithPrice and Yelp A.I. The average price of all pizzas, whether plain, cheese or Margherita, was gathered by Expensive.

The data shows that a cheese pizza costs $8.27 in New York, while an average cheese pie in Illinois is $7.33.

How is that possible? Pizzas made with plain cheese are typically more expensive than those made with deluxe toppings. Expensive also examined the price of pepperoni pizza to illustrate the difference. Oklahoma has the highest average pepperoni pizza prices at $15.56 per slice. Iowa is close behind at $15.38 and Kansas at 14.99, respectively. New York is still cheap at $9.20 for a pepperoni pie.

Perhaps New York’s average pizza cost for the whole state is lower, but it’s likely higher in New York. It’s still not true. Expensivity’s 2021 U.S. Pizza Index shows that Eau Claire, Wis. has the highest cheese pizza prices in the country, at $15.01 per slice. New Haven, Conn. comes in second with $13.84, while New York City is just $9.96 per pie.

Although New York City might seem to be a city with many pizzerias, it has the lowest density. According to data, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has the highest number of pizzerias, with an average of 95.4 per 100,000 population. NYC is not even close, with 8 pizzerias per 100,00 residents.

What about the cheapest cheese pizzas? The average North Dakota cheese pizza costs $6.64, according to data. Rhode Island is a close second with $6.68 per pizza. It’s also well-known for having the most pizzerias of any state. Wilmington, N.C., is the best place to find the lowest-priced cheese pie. The average price there is $6.35
